I started my criminal law practice as a state prosecutor in New Haven from 1982 to 1986. During that time, I handled the entire spectrum of criminal cases, including assault, murder, manslaughter, DUI, juvenile crime, drugs, burglaries, larceny, robbery, and fraud.

In 1986, I went into private practice. In the years since, while I have handled other areas of law, my focus has been on defending people charged with crimes, both at the state and federal level. I have tried more death penalty cases to completion than any other private lawyer in Connecticut.

I have handled almost every kind of criminal trial that you can imagine: both in state and federal court, both as defense attorney and as prosecutor. I have seen both sides of criminal cases. I know how the police work, because I have trained police officers when I was a prosecutor and when I worked for a criminal justice agency in Connecticut. I know how the police develop cases against people who are suspected of crimes. I also know how the police can shape the facts to create a truth that suits their own purposes.

Because I have been around, I know most of the prosecutors and judges in Connecticut. This experience helps me give you a better idea of the kind of result you can expect in a criminal case.  This experience also helps me to advise you whether you have to go to trial to get the result you hope for or whether your case can, and perhaps should, be resolved short of trial.
