Connecticut Marijuana Possession Attorney
Fighting the Consequences of Marijuana Possession
While many people consider marijuana a "soft" drug, the Connecticut government continues to actively prosecute possession of marijuana. However, prosecutors often take a less serious stance on marijuana possession. They may even let an individual charged with marijuana possession go in and out of court without serious consequences.
I am John Walkley, a Connecticut marijuana possession defense lawyer with more than 30 years of criminal law experience. I understand the options available to individuals facing marijuana possession allegations and I will work hard to find a solution in your case that does not involve jail time.
Alternative Sentencing for Marijuana Possession
There are programs available to individuals charged with marijuana possession that are not available in other drug possession cases. Possible alternative sentencing options include:
- Drug education program: Connecticut's drug education program is available for individuals convicted of simple possession of drugs. While this program is a possible option for possession of cocaine/crack cocaine, it is more commonly used for simple marijuana possession. After a year in the Connecticut drug education program, prosecutors will dismiss your charges.
- Accelerated rehabilitation: Accelerated rehabilitation is an option for individuals charged with a crime less serious than a Class B felony and who have no prior conviction on their record. It is a pre-trial probation program that can last up to two years. Once it is completed, the Court will dismiss your charges.
- Community service: A judge may also order community service for an individual charged with marijuana possession. Courts often order community service in conjunction with the drug education program.
- Counseling: There are other pre-trial counseling programs available to individuals charged with marijuana possession.
Most alternative sentencing programs are one-time only deals. If this is your second or third marijuana possession offense, I will negotiate with the prosecutors to determine what options are available for you, such as another program, counseling, or some other alternative resolution
